What is a rotary pump
2021-05-27
A rotary pump changes its working volume through the relative motion between the rotor and the pump body. A pump that further increases the energy of the liquid. A rotary pump is a rotary positive displacement pump. Its flow rate does not vary with changes in back pressure.
Introduction to Rotary Pump
Rotary pump is a type of positive displacement pump. It consists of a rotating rotor and a stationary pump body. It does not have suction and discharge valves. The working volume is changed by the relative motion between the rotor and the pump body. The liquid is discharged through the squeezing effect of the rotating rotor. Leave space on the other side at the same time. Forming low pressure. Enable liquid to be continuously inhaled.
According to its structure and principle. Rotary pumps can be divided into gear pumps, screw pumps, rotary piston pumps (cam pumps, Roots pumps), flexible impeller pumps, vane pumps, hose pumps, etc. A rotary pump is a rotary positive displacement pump. Its flow rate does not vary with changes in back pressure.
The occasions for choosing a rotary pump include: viscous liquids, metering applications, self suction applications, gas containing applications, low flow applications, pumps with no shear requirements for the medium, and high-pressure applications that require pump reversal.
Characteristics of rotor pumps
The common characteristics of various rotary pumps are as follows.
① There are no suction and discharge valves. Their main working components are the pump casing and rotor (such as gears, screws, camshafts, etc.)
② Compared to reciprocating pumps. The rotor undergoes impact free rotational motion. Higher rotational speed. Compact structure. Smaller volume.
③ The discharge pressure is generally high. But lower than reciprocating pumps. The flow rate is less than that of a reciprocating pump. Low efficiency. Usually only suitable for conveying small amounts of liquid. Most of them are used as auxiliary equipment.
④ Most rotary pumps rely on the liquid they transport for lubrication. So it is generally suitable for conveying lubricants without solid particles.
⑤ Rotary pumps also discharge liquid intermittently, so the flow fluctuation is greater than that of centrifugal pumps. Smaller than reciprocating pumps. But it can be considered to be approximately uniform.
⑥ When there is a liquid film on the surface of the rotor (conveying lubricating fluid). The pump will have self suction capability.
